Former Premier League Manager Lined Up for I’m A Celebrity 2024
Could we be seeing a footballing legend swap the dugout for the jungle? According to reports, former Premier League manager Mick McCarthy is being lined up for ITV’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! 2024.
McCarthy, 63, has been out of work since April 2023 when he left his role at Blackpool by mutual consent. The veteran gaffer has managed several clubs throughout his career, including Wolves, Ireland, Sunderland, and Cardiff City.
The news comes as no surprise, given the show’s history of featuring well-known sporting figures. Amir Khan, David Haye, Tony Bellew, Chris Eubank Sr., Kieron Dyer, Frankie Dettori, Phil Tufnell, and Jill Scott are just a few examples of the many athletes who have appeared on the show.
McCarthy’s career has been marked by controversy and drama, including a famous bust-up with Roy Keane before the 2002 World Cup. Ireland’s 1-1 draw with Germany in that tournament is still remembered fondly by fans, but the team’s exit in the last-16 against Spain was a disappointment.
After his stint at Molineux, McCarthy went on to manage Ipswich Town and then had a second spell with Ireland. He later took charge of APOEL and Blackpool, before leaving Blackpool in April 2023.
So, what do you think? Can McCarthy survive the jungle and come out on top? Let us know in the comments!
