Liverpool have already ‘identified’ their long-term Virgil van Dijk replacement and player ‘would jump’ to sign for them

Liverpool Identify Virgil van Dijk’s Potential Replacement, and He’d Jump at the Chance

The search for Virgil van Dijk’s successor has been ongoing for quite some time, and according to the latest reports, Liverpool have identified their prime target. Enter Marc Guehi, the 24-year-old Crystal Palace center-back who has caught the attention of the Reds. Guehi has already informed his friends that he would love to join a "bigger club" than Newcastle United, and it’s no secret that Liverpool fit the bill.

As per Football Insider, Guehi has been made aware of Liverpool’s interest, and he would "jump" at the opportunity to join the Merseyside giants. The Anfield club is likely to target a new center-back in the coming windows, considering Van Dijk’s contract is in its final year.

Guehi, who has captained Crystal Palace on several occasions and started every match for England at the European Championships, was the subject of interest from Newcastle this summer. The Magpies had four bids rejected for the talented defender, with Palace co-owner Steve Parish insisting the club would only accept "superstar money" to part ways with Guehi.

However, Palace may look to sell Guehi next summer, with the player’s contract entering its final two years. Football Insider claims that Guehi is aware of Liverpool’s interest and would be thrilled to join the Reds. The player has already impressed this season, playing every minute of Crystal Palace’s matches in all competitions.

Steve Parish recently spoke to Sky Sports, explaining that the club expected Guehi to depart in the summer. "I don’t think the window worked out exactly the same format that we thought it would," Parish said. "Maybe we thought at the beginning it’d be more likely that Marc Guehi went and we kept Joachim Andersen. We accepted that bid [for Andersen] which then made it very difficult really to sell both of our starting centre-backs in one window."

The departure of Van Dijk’s long-term partner, Joel Matip, has further heightened the need for a reliable center-back. With Guehi’s exceptional defensive skills and leadership qualities, he could be the perfect candidate to fill the void.
