Manchester United Star Under Fire for Complacency
Manchester United’s Christian Eriksen sparked controversy after the Red Devils’ 1-1 draw with FC Twente in the Europa League, stating that the visitors "wanted it more" during the match. His manager Erik ten Hag agreed with his sentiment, saying the team was too complacent and failed to bring the win over the line.
Eriksen’s comment may have been meant as a motivational push, but it didn’t sit well with many United fans and pundits alike. Karen Carney, a former England international, slammed Eriksen’s statement, saying: "To hear that, you can’t have that. That’s unacceptable. You’re at home, you’re winning – you should want it more and be ruthless. I don’t see the ruthless edge in this team at the minute."
Owen Hargreaves, a former United midfielder, added his two cents: "Obviously, you can’t have that [not wanting it more]. I thought United’s heads went down a bit after the goal, and that’s not good enough. They didn’t get the job done."
United’s lackluster performance against Twente raised concerns about their squad’s mental toughness and competitive spirit. With seven Europa League fixtures still to play, the Red Devils must regain their focus and motivation if they hope to progress through the group stage.
