Premier League Star’s Girlfriend Almost Called Him Out for Cheating Thanks to a Funny Football Manager Mix-Up
We’re back with a tale of love, lies, and a whole lot of confusion in the football world. Former Tottenham Hotspur player Andros Townsend has shared a hilarious story about how his girlfriend suspected him of cheating after thinking a Football Manager tweet was real.
In an appearance on talkSPORT, Townsend recounted the hilarious mix-up: "She’s searching my name on Twitter and she comes across a fine… Andros Townsend accepts his fine for reporting late to training. She’s thought it was real, not realising it’s a Football Manager thing."
If you’re not familiar, Football Manager is a beloved video game that lets users control their favorite football clubs, making all sorts of managerial decisions, including doling out fines. So, in this case, Townsend’s girlfriend was freaking out thinking her boyfriend had been up to no good.
Fortunately for Townsend, he was able to break the news to his worried partner: "I get the screenshot, and I’ve got to message her: ‘It’s a video game, love! I’m not getting fined by the Premier League!’ She couldn’t believe it."
Now, Townsend is happily married to Hazel O’Sullivan, with whom he shares two children, Aria Valentina and Andros Jr. And, interestingly, the pair has come a long way from that mix-up. Football fans will recall that Townsend has recently joined Turkish club Antalyaspor after leaving Luton Town.
As for Football Manager, fans can look forward to the latest edition later this year. Until then, let this be a reminder that sometimes, our significant others can be oblivious to our virtual football woes.
