It’s safe to say that Sven-Göran Eriksson’s wish to have his ashes scattered in his favorite beauty spot, Lake Fryken, has been quashed by the local council. The news has come as a crushing blow to the family and friends of the Swedish tactician, who sadly passed away earlier this month.
In his final days, Eriksson expressed a desire to rest his final breaths near the tranquil waters of Lake Fryken, a spot that held special meaning for him. "It makes you calm, it makes me calm," he reminisced in an Amazon documentary. But, alas, the wishes of the ex-England boss have been denied, and his cremated remains will now be laid to rest in an urn.
It’s clear that the family and friends of Eriksson are less than pleased with the news. Speaking to The Sun, his agent Bo Gustavsson confirmed that their application to scatter the ashes had been rejected. Additionally, friend and former player Anders Runebjer confirmed that the application had been withdrawn, with the final resting place to be announced at a later date.
While it’s understandable that the local council may have had valid reasons for refusing the request, it’s hard not to feel for Eriksson’s loved ones. It’s a heartbreaking twist for a man who had spent his life leaving a lasting impact on the beautiful game.
However, it seems that Torsby, Eriksson’s hometown, will still honor his legacy. A stunning bronze statue of the legendary manager will be erected, complete with intricate details such as the correct measurements taken from photos of Eriksson during his time with the England national team. Artistically rendered, the statue will capture the essence of the manager, right down to the exact suit and shoes he wore.
But what of the ashes now? Unfortunately, it appears that we may never see Eriksson’s final goodbyes played out near the picturesque Lake Fryken. A bitter pill to swallow, no doubt. Nevertheless, his legacy continues to be celebrated, even in the face of heartbreak and disappointment.
