PSG’s Collective Shift: Marquinhos on Life Without Kylian Mbappé
The Paris Saint-Germain project has undergone a significant transformation since Luis Enrique’s arrival. The departure of Lionel Messi, Neymar, and most recently Kylian Mbappé, has shifted the focus from individual star power to a collective strength.
Marquinhos, the club captain, has responded to Enrique’s recent comments about the team’s collective identity. "He is experienced and he knew what he was saying," Marquinhos began, ahead of PSG’s UEFA Champions League opener against Girona. "He knew other players would step up. [Ousmane Dembélé and Bradley Barcola] are scoring, are happy, and are confident, and that is the most important thing."
PSG’s recent performances have been impressive, with Dembélé and Barcola leading the charge. Despite the lack of "big names," Marquinhos is confident that his teammates are the best in the world. "I always think that my teammates are the best in the world. This team will always be the best. Even if we don’t have big names, we are ready to try and achieve big things."
Marquinhos believes that the club’s objective should be to "dream of going as far as possible" in the Champions League. Last season, PSG reached the semi-final stage of the competition, and with a collective shift in focus, they’re determined to go even further.
