Jurgen Klopp held ‘multiple meetings’ over shock managerial role immediately after leaving Liverpool

Klopp’s Shocking Move: The German Boss was Set to Take Over USA Job

Jurgen Klopp, the former Liverpool manager, has been linked to several top managerial roles since leaving Anfield this summer. But, in a surprising twist, it’s emerged that he was actually a strong contender for the vacant USA men’s national team job.

According to reports, Klopp had multiple meetings with US Soccer officials over the role, which they attempted to lure him into with a dazzling proposal. However, the German tactician wanted a longer break from football before making a potential return, ultimately scuppering the deal.

Instead, former Tottenham and Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino has since been confirmed as the new head coach of the national side. The United States is set to co-host the 2026 World Cup alongside Mexico and Canada, and the team has big plans for success under Pochettino’s guidance.

Klopp, meanwhile, has insisted that he’s taking a hiatus from football to recharge his batteries. "I have said throughout that I am not ‘in that moment’ in terms of focusing on my own situation," he said in May. "The time to reflect will come, but it is not now."

With Liverpool ending their final Premier League season under Klopp in third place, it’ll be interesting to see how he spends his time out of the game. Could he be plotting a sensational return to management soon? Only time will tell.
