The Man Utd Player Angel Gomes Idolized While Growing Up
It’s no secret that former Manchester United star Angel Gomes has been making waves in the football world with his impressive skills on the pitch. But did you know that Gomes had a major influence on him during his formative years at Old Trafford? According to Gomes, it was none other than Portuguese winger Nani who stood out as his idol.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Gomes revealed that he was heavily influenced by Nani’s flair and skillful play. "Nani used to be my idol," Gomes said. "I used to watch him and even practice his backflips on the trampoline. He used to invite me and my brother round to his house to play football in the back garden, and show me how to hit the ball against a wall with either foot over and over again until it became natural."
Nani, who played for Manchester United between 2007 and 2015, was known for his mesmerizing skills on the pitch. His ability to control the game with his vision and technique made him a fan favorite, especially after the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid in 2009.
The Portuguese winger’s influence on Gomes is evident, and it’s no surprise that the 24-year-old midfielder has spoken highly of his former idol. "Angel is very technical, he controls the game with his skill and his technique. He is very determined, has a great attitude, and loves football," England manager Lee Carsley said of Gomes. "I think he is a player people will be excited to see."
With Gomes now an England international, it’ll be interesting to see how he fares on the biggest stage. Will he be able to replicate his Manchester United form with the Three Lions? Only time will tell, but one thing is for sure – Gomes has the skills and dedication to make a real impact on the international scene.
