Steve Bruce Returns to Football After Two-Year Absence, Takes the Reigns at Blackpool
Legendary English manager Steve Bruce is back in the hotseat, as he’s announced his shock return to football with League One outfit Blackpool. The 63-year-old, who had been out of work since October 2022, has penned a two-year deal to take charge of the Tangerines, who currently sit 22nd in the league.
Bruce, who’s experienced the highs and lows during his managerial career, having managed the likes of Wigan, Birmingham, Sunderland, Hull City, Aston Villa, Newcastle, and West Brom, will aim to get Blackpool up and running. Speaking after his appointment, Bruce declared, "I’m delighted to be back in football and to take charge of this fantastic football club… I look forward to meeting all of the staff and players in the coming days as we prepare for what we all hope will be an exciting season at Bloomfield Road."
The experienced coach will be joined by assistant Steve Agnew, which is great news for players like Jayden Stockley and Matty Virtue, who will have two experienced heads to learn from. Speaking about Bruce, Blackpool owner Simon Sadler praised his ability to "grow and develop" not only the playing squad but also the coaching staff. Sadler also revealed that the duo’s goal is to get the "best out of our talented squad."
While Bruce might not have enjoyed the most successful spell at Newcastle and West Brom, his extensive managerial experience will undoubtedly benefit the Tangerines. Considering he was linked to the Jamaica national team manager’s role, it’s understandable that he’s back to what he knows best.
In an era where sacking managers has become almost commonplace, it’s great to see a man who’s dedicated his life to the beautiful game being given a chance to turn things around. Will Bruce magic work his charm on the Tangerines? We’ll have to wait and see, but one thing’s for sure – Steve Bruce is back in business!
