Manchester United Flop Finds New Home After Training Ground Bust-Up
Alex Telles, the Manchester United left-back who was involved in a training ground bust-up with Hannibal Mejbri, has found a new club after terminating his contract with Al Nassr. The Brazilian defender has signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with Botafogo, returning to his native Brazil.
Telles joined United in 2020 for £15.4 million from Porto, but his time at Old Trafford was marked by inconsistency and a lack of game time. He made 50 appearances across two seasons, but was often overlooked by manager Erik ten Hag.
The 30-year-old’s departure from United was not unexpected, given his lack of playing time and the arrival of new left-backs at the club. However, his training ground bust-up with Mejbri in May 2022 was a major red flag for Ten Hag, who was not impressed with Telles’ behavior.
The incident reportedly left teammates "stunned", and both players started a 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace just days later. The bust-up was a major talking point in the media, with many questioning Telles’ professionalism and commitment to the team.
Telles’ move to Botafogo is a significant one, as it marks a return to his native Brazil and a chance to revive his career. The defender will be hoping to make a fresh start and prove himself in the Brazilian top flight.
