Liverpool Shockingly Missed Out on Signing Star Striker This Summer
The transfer window may be closed, but the excitement and drama continue to unfold. Liverpool were reportedly one of the Premier League clubs that made a late bid for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen this summer. The 25-year-old Nigerian forward was the subject of intense interest from top clubs around the world, including Chelsea, Al Ahli, and the Reds.
According to Corriere dello Sport, Liverpool considered making a move for Osimhen before the transfer window closed. However, the club didn’t make a formal bid as they believed the finances weren’t feasible. Napoli were adamant that they would only accept a permanent transfer, and Osimhen refused to take a pay cut to facilitate a move.
Osimhen, who has been in superb form for Napoli, remains with the Italian club after Chelsea and Al Ahli failed to agree on a deal. The talented forward has been a key player for Napoli, scoring goals and providing assists at will. His impressive performances have caught the attention of many top clubs, including Liverpool.
While Liverpool missed out on Osimhen, they have started the new season with three consecutive Premier League wins without conceding a goal. The Reds have looked solid under manager Arne Slot, and their latest victory over Manchester United was a statement win.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Slot said, "United started really aggressive and we had to fight through that period, but if you go to Old Trafford you know there will be tough moments. But, in the end, some nice goals and a deserved win I think."
Liverpool’s late bid for Osimhen may not have come to fruition, but they remain a force to be reckoned with in the Premier League. With their sights set on a top-four finish, the Reds will be looking to build on their impressive start to the season.
