Mbappé brushes off pressure: ‘Here to be Kylian’

Mbappé Breaks the Drought as Real Madrid Ease Past Betis

Kylian Mbappé is known for his incredible goal-scoring ability, but even he has off days. After going three league games without finding the net, the French superstar finally broke his duck in Real Madrid’s 2-0 win over Real Betis on Sunday.

The 23-year-old grabbed a brace, with Federico Valverde’s back-heel assist setting him up for his first goal and a penalty converting his second. It was a relief for Mbappé, who revealed he had been feeling the pressure to adapt to his new team.

"The pressure I have is to adapt to the team," Mbappé said in the post-match press conference. "I’ve scored goals all my career, I’ll score goals for sure. The goals will come. Three games [without scoring] are a lot for me, but it’s OK, I have the confidence of my teammates."

Despite his recent drought, Mbappé was his usual energetic self on the pitch, taking nine shots and creating plenty of chances for his teammates. He was grateful for the support of the Madrid faithful, who have taken him to their hearts.

"It was a great moment," Mbappé said. "I’ve been waiting to score at this legendary stadium, the best in the world. The fans give me a lot of affection, even when I wasn’t scoring."

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti praised Mbappé’s performance, but was more concerned with the team’s collective effort.

"Kylian had a good game. He was very effective in the area, he took his chances, he worked hard," Ancelotti said. "It was important for him to score, but we evaluate the collective work."

Mbappé’s teammate Vinícius Júnior also made headlines, as he gave up a penalty for Mbappé to take. Ancelotti was full of praise for the young Brazilian.

"Vinícius was very altruistic, letting Kylian take the penalty," Ancelotti said. "They have a good relationship."

With this win, Real Madrid are now second in LaLiga, four points behind leaders Barcelona. They’ll look to keep their momentum going when the league resumes after the international break.
