Andros Townsend Stuck in Limbo as Turkey Transfer Ban Halts His Antalyaspor Move
It’s been a wild few weeks for former Premier League winger Andros Townsend, who has found himself in a transfer limbo. Despite "completing" a move to Turkish Super Lig side Antalyaspor, the 33-year-old is still unsure who he’s contracted to.
In a recent interview with BBC Radio 5 Live, Townsend revealed the crazy events that have unfolded. Just three days before the start of the season, Antalyaspor contacted him with a deal, but with a transfer ban looming, they needed him to respond within 24 hours. Townsend, understandably, was given no time to think, and he agreed to join the club on the condition he’d play in their opening game. However, due to a few hours’ delay in finalizing the paperwork, the transfer didn’t quite go through.
The situation is further complicated by Antalyaspor’s transfer ban, which prohibits them from registering new players. "I don’t know who owns me. I don’t know where my contract is," Townsend said, feeling stuck in limbo. He’s currently training with the club but can’t play or even officially be announced as a player.
This raises questions about the future of Townsend’s career, with the Turkish transfer window closing on September 13 and the Premier League window shutting on Friday. With the clock ticking, it’s unclear if Townsend will be able to sort out his contractual issues and join Antalyaspor or return to England.
