Premier League club set to complete ‘record breaking’ deal ahead of transfer deadline

Premier League Club Poised to Smash Transfer Record Ahead of Deadline

The summer transfer window has been a whirlwind for Premier League clubs, with some of the biggest names in the league making significant signings. And it looks like one club is about to make a move that will leave everyone talking.

Brighton and Hove Albion are reportedly on the verge of signing Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley for a record-breaking fee. The 23-year-old has been a key player for the Scottish champions, scoring 19 goals and providing 18 assists last season. And it seems that his impressive form has caught the eye of the Seagulls.

According to reports, Brighton have agreed to pay an initial fee of £26million, rising to £30m with add-ons, to bring O’Riley to the club on a five-year deal with the option to extend for a further year. This would break the previous record for a fee received by a Scottish club for a signing, which was also held by Celtic and set by the sale of Portuguese winger Jota to Saudi Pro League club Al-Ittihad for a reported fee of approximately £25m.

O’Riley has reportedly completed a medical and is now waiting for the deal to be officially confirmed. This would be the sixth signing for Brighton this summer, with Yankuba Minteh and Georgino Rutter being the most notable.

The midfielder’s decision to join Brighton is reportedly due to his desire to play in the Premier League and his admiration for the club’s style of play. Speaking ahead of his move to Celtic last September, O’Riley said: "I wouldn’t just join a club if they paid me a certain amount of money if the style wasn’t right. I’m not that kind of guy."

Brighton will play Crawley Town in their next match, ahead of a Premier League clash with Arsenal at the weekend. This signing could be a huge coup for the club and a major statement of intent ahead of the new season.
