Former Sky Sports commentator hits out at broadcaster over their coverage of Liverpool vs Brentford

Former Sky Sports Commentator Takes Aim at Broadcaster Over Liverpool vs Brentford Coverage

Sky Sports’ broadcast of Liverpool’s 2-0 victory over Brentford has been met with criticism from a former commentator, who took to social media to express his discontent.

Bryn Law, who now works for Leeds United’s LUTV, blasted Sky Sports for their coverage of the match, which saw Kelly Cates, daughter of Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish, present alongside co-commentators Jamie Redknapp and Jamie Carragher.

Law pointed out that Sky’s coverage lacked neutrality, with all three studio guests having connections to Liverpool FC. "Could they not have at least found an ex-Brentford player as a second studio guest?" he wrote on X.

Redknapp played for Liverpool from 1991 to 2002, while Carragher spent 17 years at the club, winning the 2005 Champions League. Meanwhile, Christiansen, the only other guest on the broadcast, played for Everton and Manchester City Women.

This lack of representation for Brentford sparked Law’s suggestion that "smaller clubs" should have their own dedicated coverage for matches against powerhouse teams like Liverpool.

"It’s time Sky let ‘the little club’ do their own red button coverage then they could go full ‘big club’ with impunity," he wrote.

Law’s criticism of Sky Sports’ coverage has raised questions about the broadcaster’s commitment to objectivity. Should they be focusing on presenting a balanced view of the match, or do their loyalties lie elsewhere?

In other news, the main talking point for Liverpool fans was Trent Alexander-Arnold’s reaction when he was substituted off in the 72nd minute for Conor Bradley.

After the match, manager Arne Slot spoke about Alexander-Arnold’s disappointment, stating, "Every player wants to play 90 minutes. But I don’t think the players that were on the bench from the start were really happy with the choice I made."

As Slot noted, every player wants to play the full 90 minutes, but managers must make tough decisions to ensure the well-being of their players for the long season ahead.
