Cristiano Ronaldo’s Saudi Super Cup Dreams Crash and Burn as Al Hilal Run Riot

It’s been a tough start to the new season for Cristiano Ronaldo and Al Nassr, with the Saudi Pro League champions falling to a 4-1 defeat in the Saudi Super Cup final against bitter rivals Al Hilal.

Ronaldo, 39, scored a superb goal just before half-time to give Al Nassr hope, but it was all downhill from there. Al Hilal’s Serbian duo, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Aleksandar Mitrovic, ran riot in the second half, with the former scoring two goals and Mitrovic chipping in with one of his own.

The victory marked Al Hilal’s fifth Saudi Super Cup title and cemented their status as the most successful team in the competition. For Al Nassr, it’s a familiar story of what could have been, having also been beaten to the Saudi King’s Cup and Pro League title by Al Hilal last season.

Despite his impressive goal-scoring record in the Saudi Pro League, Ronaldo has yet to win a domestic trophy since joining Al Nassr in December 2022. Will this be the season he turns things around?
