An earthquake of magnitude 5.9 has been recorded in the city of Encud, Los Lagos region, southern Chile., The movement took place this Friday, 23 September at 7:53 pm.
The National Seismological Center of the University of Chile reported that the quake occurred 142.29 km west of Ancud.
Tsunami threat ruled out in Chile
The Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service of the Chilean Navy (SHOA) said a tsunami threat was ruled out.
“The characteristics of the earthquake did not meet the necessary conditions to generate a tsunami off the coast of Chile,” the agency’s statement read.
Chilean authorities specified that an assessment of potential harm to people, changes to basic services or changes to infrastructure as a result of the incident began through the National Disaster Prevention and Response System.
